Are Mistakes Really Such A Bad Thing? Or Is It Our Perspective That Needs Correcting?

Does life really have other plans?

In yesterday’s post I shared an article from Medium with a list of mistakes. When I first read that article, it got me thinking about my own mistakes.

  • Was it a mistake to lose touch with some of my London school friends? Instead of making lots of new ones.
  • Was it a mistake to ignore my dad’s concerns about that ex-boyfriend?
  • Was it a mistake not to pursue a career in hairdressing?
  • Was it a mistake to move in with a work friend?
  • Was it a mistake to stay with my first husband for as long as I did?
  • Was it a mistake not to have therapy when we separated?
  • Was it a mistake to pursue a long-distance relationship with someone who quite clearly didn’t give a fuck about me?
  • Was it a mistake to drink so much in my single years?
  • Was it a mistake to leave a job I quite liked for a significant pay rise?

The list could go on and on. But then I wondered, are they really mistakes? Or were they all meant to happen?

If I didn’t make those mistakes, I wouldn’t have the friends I have now, which means I would never have met the husband.

I would never have had the free annual medical through work that, encouraged me to see…
